Over two billion citizens on this planet do not have access to electricity. This project will develop innovative strategies that will lead to employment opportunities for youth while providing renewable energy to their local communities. The project will develop a knowledge base of good practices, and business plans for promoting renewable energies through a community and business development model. The project objectives focus on promoting the use of renewable energy in off-grid rural communities, while simultaneously developing increased employment opportunities for youth. This will be accomplished through a combination of the global activities of the project complemented by developing business plans for renewable energy in Costa Rica. The project will disseminate globally the knowledge gained through this work so that similar efforts can be replicated in other parts of the world. The goals of UNFCCC will be promoted among youth and their communities. It is recognized that global climate change is impacting all communities, but the adverse effect on the poor (young and old) and excluded is immense. This project will raise awareness of the climate change impacts and its causes among youth, and will share the link between renewable energy development and youth employment needs. It will be part of the global effort to meet the objectives of the UNFCCC in supporting communities to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels by moving towards renewable energy sources.
