This GEF project which is to last 5 yearswill contribute both globally and locally to slowing the pace of land degradation; protecting and rehabilitating natural habitats, preserving full agro-forestry ecosystems and their functions, maintaining a protective barrier against the desertification phenomenon, raising the living standard and reducing poverty, reducing massive movements and migration of the populations outside the area, and containing sedimentation in river streams. The project will therefore have benefits for sustainable land management, and biodiversity conservation, and reduce vulnerability to climate change. The Overall Goal of the full project is to combat land degradation, and contribute to poverty reduction efforts by preserving natural resources through sustainable land management. The project’s overall goal is divided into four immediate objectives: To restore the fertility of cultivable lands, To rationalize the use of sylvo-pastoral ecosystems, To build up technical and managerial capacities among stakeholders and to promote local partnership in DC/PR,
