The Youth Dialogue on Mercury is an initiative of the Ministry of the Environment, Japan: the programme started in 2021 to encourage dialogue among youths from Minamata and other parts of the world, enabling them to share their experiences and lessons learned about mercury, and to learn from one another.
The Youth Dialogue on Mercury 2025 brought together high school students from Japan, Slovenia, and Kenya. They voluntarily participated in the dialogue, conducting independent activities on mercury-related issues in their own countries and regions. Through presentations based on their findings, they engaged in active discussions, sharing candid opinions and fresh perspectives unique to youth.
This event marked an important step for young people to deepen their awareness of mercury-related issues and to consider actions they can take. The participants are now helping to raise awareness about the hazards and impacts of mercury through learning experiences in their schools and local communities.
