Mining without mercury: How technology can support the transition to mercury-free ASGM sector

The session "Mining without Mercury: How Technology Can Support the Transition to Mercury-Free Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining Sector" will explore how technological innovation can support the transition to a mercury-free artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) sector. The session will first describe the state of mercury use in ASGM globally, based on National Action Plans and other data sources; then review existing and emerging methods for non-mercury ASGM processing technologies and workflows; and end with a discussion of social and economic considerations for adoption of non-mercury processing technologies by miners.
