Renforcement des capacités institutionnelles du Rwanda pour la mise en œuvre de la Convention de Minamata

The project aims at strengthening the national capacity to implement the Minamata Convention by supporting the establishment of an information management system for mercury, mercury compounds and mercury-containing wastes; enhancing the capacity of various stakeholders on safe handling, storage, management, transport and disposal of mercury and mercury-containing wastes; and contributing to the implementation of measures for control/reduction of sources of mercury emissions and releases. The project also supports gender mainstreaming in implementation of the Minamata Convention as well as stakeholder awareness raising and education on health and environmental risks associated with mercury, mercury compounds and mercury-containing wastes.

  • OUTPUT 1 National Mercury, Mercury Compounds and Mercury-containing Wastes information management system to collect data on mercury supply, use, storage, emissions, and releases developed and operationalized
  • OUTPUT 2 Capacity of laboratories technicians, mercury containing waste producers and waste operators, as well as other relevant stakeholders on safe handling, clean-up, storage, treatment, transport and disposal of mercury and mercury containing wastes enhanced
  • OUTPUT 3 Mercury emissions and releases from relevant point sources controlled, where feasible, or reduced through regular monitoring and inspections and Technical Guidelines for the Environmentally Sound Management of mercury wastes applied
  • OUTPUT 4 Stakeholder awareness raising and education on understanding of the health and environmental risks of mercury and mercury-containing wastes conducted
