Strengthening Indonesia's Reduction and Elimination in the Distribution and Supply Chain of Mercury from National Health (SIRENE)

This project will support the Government of Indonesia and key stakeholders in the healthcare sector in eliminating mercury from the distribution and supply chain of medical devices. It will do so through strengthening policies and regulations, establishing a system to track, collect and safely store existing mercury-containing medical devices (MCMDs) for eventual disposal using BAT/BEP, and establishing a mechanism for the sustainable replacement of MCMDs. Additionally, the project will promote circular practices for mercury-free electronic medical devices to prevent future buildup of e-waste from the healthcare sector.
