Eighth meeting of the Implementation and Compliance Committee

Implementation and Compliance Committee Virtual 7 - 8 Sep 2026

The Implementation and Compliance Committee held its eighth meeting online on 7 and 8 September 2026 and considered three compliance-related submissions from Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay. During the meeting the Committee also elected a new Chair, Eva Salplachtova (Czechia), and Vice-Chair, João Paulo de Sousa Vieira (Brazil), from among its members.

Since its first meeting in 2018, the Committee has become a well-established subsidiary body, fulfilling its mandate to promote implementation of and review compliance with all provisions of the Convention. In addition to considering individual issues of compliance, it has issued recommendations and conclusions that have supported the adoption of several decisions by the COP on matters related to national reporting, primary mercury mining and mercury trade, among others. The next meeting of the Committee will be held from 22 to 24 February 2027 in Geneva.
