Improving capacity building program for the replacement of mercury containing lamps in order to implement the Minamata Convention in Islamic Republic of Iran

Expected outcome
- OUTPUT 1: Carry out an accurate estimation of the import and production of lamps containing mercury. Accurately identify domestic manufacturers as well as review the potential of domestic factories to produce mercury-free lamps or lamps with permissible levels of mercury
- OUTPUT 2: Study and identify best alternative technologies for mercury lamps and select the best option regarding technical-economic studies in the country
- OUTPUT 3: Identify barriers and existing capacities for replacing mercury-containing lamps and incentive policies, financial methods, and legal issues to provide product options for manufacturers to replace products
- OUTPUT 4: Prepare a roadmap for banning the import of mercury-containing lamps and replacing domestically produced lamps with mercury-free lamps or lamps with permissible levels of mercury. Presenting it to regulatory bodies, and carry out training courses
- OUTPUT 5: Identify optimal waste management methods for mercury-containing lamps in the transition period to prevent the release of mercury into the environment. Carry out citizenship education
