Capacity-building for effective implementation of Minamata Convention focusing on mercury inventory

The project will develop a comprehensive mercury inventory using the UNEP Mercury Inventory Toolkit, while increasing knowledge and capacity among different stakeholders. The project will also provide a data collection system and verification of collected data for sources of mercury emissions and releases and identify technologies to remedy mercury contamination which can be employed at the national level. The project will implement two pilot projects to evaluate approaches for contaminated sites.

The overall objective of this project is to assist in improving capacity of the Islamic Republic of Iran to implement the Minamata Convention, focusing on developing a mercury inventory in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

  • OUTCOME 1 Develop a data collection system and verify collected data for sources of mercury releases and emissions

  • OUTCOME 3 Investigate whether specific types of industries and mines other than those listed in the Convention exist in Iran
