ICMGP and Minamata Convention sessions 2 and 3

Minamata Online Virtual 13 - 13 May 2026

Two Minamata Online sessions will take place on 13 May (starting at 09h00 and 16h00 CEDT), focusing on the 17th International Conference on Mercury as a Global Pollutant (ICMGP). Following the Minamata Online on 22 April, scientists convening special sessions on various scientific areas for the 17th ICMGP will present the objectives, plans and relevance of these sessions to the Minamata Convention. The ICMGP started in 1991 to bring together mercury scientists from around the world to discuss global solutions to mercury pollution. Its 17th meeting will be held in Hyderabad, India, from 4 to 9 October 2026.

Third session: 16h-17h CEDT

  • Environmental modelling of mercury to inform international policy (Ari Feinberg and Eric Roy)
  • The Toxic Trail of Beauty: Unpacking Mercury in Cosmetics through Data and Action (Malgorzata Alicja Stylo and Eisaku Toda)
  • Mercury and biodiversity: Connecting science with global policy (David Evers and Malgorzata Alicja Stylo)
  • Mercury transformation and mobilization from wetlands: New tools for an old question with new urgency (Kevin Bishop)
  • Artisanal and small-scale gold mining (title to be refined) (Malgorzata Alicja Stylo and Eisaku Toda)
  • Advances in machine learning and process-based models for global Hg cycling (Lei Zhang)
