Strengthening Ghana’s Health Sector for the implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury

In Ghana, the Minamata Initial Assessment clearly outlines Ghana’s health sector as a major contributor to mercury releases due to its high dependence on materials such as thermometers, sphygmomanometers and dental amalgam which have high contents of mercury. As recommended by the MIA report and in compliance with the targets of the Minamata Convention on Mercury, the project will build capacities of personnel in Ghana’s health sector to implement policies and activities geared towards the phasing-out/down of mercury use in the health sector.
