National Reporting Dashboard – Second short national reports

The Minamata Convention National Reporting Dashboard has been updated to include the latest data from the second short national reporting, covering the period from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2022, with reports due by 31 December 2023. This updated dashboard compiles and visualizes the quantitative responses submitted by the Parties to the Convention, focusing on four multi-tiered questions related to the implementation of the Convention, which are reported every two years.

The objective of this dashboard is to provide users with complementary insights and analytical tools to better understand and interpret the data from the short national reports. For more detail and thoroughness, it is recommended to review the second short national reports posted on the Convention's website.

The dashboard is structured into two main sections:

  • Reporting performance (pages 1 and 2) for the second short national reporting, calculated based on the reports submitted to the Secretariat as of 31 May 2024, and by the 137 Parties to the Convention as of 31 December 2022.
  • Report results: covering the quantitative responses to the four questions of the short national reporting for the past three reporting cycles.

To help in navigating the report results section, the relevant Convention article is indicated in the header, followed by the applicable question from the short report. The aggregated responses are visualized through pie charts showing overall percentages, and stacked bar charts that break down the data by region.

This iteration of the dashboard introduces several new features designed to upscale its functionality:

  • Global view: Users can now access a global overview of the data, enabling a broader understanding of reporting trends.
  • Advanced filtering: The dashboard offers filters by region, Party, reporting round, and submission date, allowing users to tailor the data to their specific needs.
  • Summary of responses: A concise summary of the responses is provided, offering a quick snapshot of the key findings from the reports.

The data presented in the dashboard is sourced directly from the Parties' submissions in the Online Reporting Tool (ORT) database, ensuring that the data is up-to-date and accurately represented. This new version of the dashboard is powered by PowerBI, adhering to the United Nations technology standards for data visualization.

This enhanced dashboard aims to be a valuable tool for Parties, researchers, and stakeholders involved in the implementation and monitoring of the Minamata Convention on Mercury, offering a clearer and more interactive way to engage with the national reporting data.
