During COP-6, Japan's Ministry of the Environment (MOEJ) partnered with the Chemicals and Waste Youth Platform, a group representing youth from more than 150 countries, to convene the Global Youth Dialogue on Mercury.
The event enabled young participants to highlight their work on mercury awareness, prevention, and community-level engagement, while providing a space for mutual learning and peer exchange. Participants discussed strategies to enhance youth contributions to Minamata Convention processes, potential areas for collaboration, and opportunities for expanding youth access to mercury-related information and education.
Since 2021, MOEJ has organized a series of Youth Dialogues on Mercury, engaging young people, primarily in the Asia-Pacific region, in discussions on mercury issues under the Minamata Convention. More information about previous Dialogues:
The video below, produced by MOEJ, captures highlights from the Dialogue, including youth presentations, group interactions, and reflections on the importance of youth involvement in advancing the objectives of the Minamata Convention.
