In doing so, we must understand the present challenges, and consider how alternative gold processing methods can be incentivized and scaled.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EEvent description and expected results\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EPact will set the stage by introducing the interlinkages between formalization and the adoption of better mining practices. Pact will then focus in on the African continent, with an analytical overview of the ASGM sector, which includes estimates of ASGM gold production and mercury usage, and workforce size.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EFollowing this introduction, Sierra Leone (representing West Africa), Uganda (East Africa), and Zimbabwe (Southern Africa) will share recent experiences from developing NAP formalization strategies. Panelists are specifically being asked to inform and comment on how strategies and ongoing efforts will support the introduction of better mining practices for reducing mercury use.
