planetGOLD Mongolia: “Make Mercury History” children’s art competition

The planetGOLD Mongolia project, in collaboration with Mandal soum’s Children’s Palace and Tunkhel Secondary School, organized an art competition to "Make Mercury History". This initiative aimed to raise awareness of elementary and middle school students about the harmful effects of mercury and to advocate against the use of mercury in artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) communities in Mandal soum and Tunkhel village, located in Selenge province, Mongolia.

The competition's award ceremonies were held in Tunkhel village on September 30 and in Mandal soum on October 1, 2023. Five hundred fifteen children participated, showcasing their artwork on the dangers of mercury and the importance of safeguarding our environment.
