World scientists publish Global Mercury Synthesis Papers

11 Apr 2023

Top scientists published a series of synthesis papers on the global impact of mercury pollution.

5th Anniversary

The 15th International Conference on Mercury as a Global Pollutant (ICMGP 15), held virtually in July 2022, included a synthesis workshop and special sections to enhance communication among a diverse group of researchers, managers and policymakers, and to synthesize, interpret and translate scientific findings that relate to policy questions on issues associated with mercury fate and transport and human exposure and health effects. These efforts resulted in five synthesis papers published in a scientific journal in March 2023.

The Secretariat of the Minamata Convention, in cooperation with ICMGP, has organized Minamata Online sessions on these synthesis papers. Four sessions were convened before ICMGP 15, and two sessions were convened in 2022 (artisanal and small-scale gold mining and health risk communication). The next session on mercury in southern hemisphere is planned for 12 April 2023, and the last session on global change is planned for 7 June 2023.
