As mercury scientists worldwide get together in Cape Town for next week's International Conference on Mercury as a Global Pollutant, the Minamata Convention Secretariat, funded by the European Union, organizes an expert meeting on mercury emissions and releases on 18-19 July in the same venue.
Co-chaired by Mr. Lynwill Martin of South Africa and Mr. Ronnie Frazer-Williams of Sierra Leone, experts from Argentina, Botswana,Brazil, Burundi, China, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Lesotho, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa and even more participating online will review the trend in the emissions and releases of mercury. The work will be an important input to the evaluation of the effectiveness of the Convention.
