Invitation to the Latin America and the Caribbean regional preparatory meeting for the fifth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury, 5-6 October 2023, Brasilia, Brazil

In late August, Monika Stankiewicz, Executive Secretary of the Minamata Convention, embarked on a journey to Minamata Bay in Japan, aimed at strengthening ties with the region and honoring the victims of the Minamata disease.

The Minamata Convention and the UNEP science policy panel on chemicals, waste and prevention of pollution (SPP) have cooperated to hold back-to-back regional meetings.

The forum provides a secured space for parties to review, comment, or ask questions about the proposed programme of work and the budget for the biennium 2024-2025 ahead of COP-5.
