To support Parties in addressing mercury-added products, the Secretariat, with the financial support from the European Union and in cooperation with partners, have developed capacity-building material in six UN languages.

Controlling mercury-added products under the Convention

Phasing out and phasing down the use of mercury in consumer product is one of the Minamata Convention’s obligations that all the Parties are to act on. The phase-out deadline for the mercury-added products originally listed in the Convention was 2020, but some parties still face challenges in catching up with this deadline.

To support Parties in addressing mercury-added products, the Secretariat, with the financial support from the European Union and in cooperation with partners, have developed capacity-building material in six UN languages. The material is in the form of PowerPoint slides with read-out text. Parties and stakeholders are free to download the files and customize them, adding information on national regulations and practices as appropriate.

Questions and comments on the material can be posted in Minamata Convention Forum until 31 July 2024. To join the Forum, click here to register and log in, and check out the comprehensive guide for the forum

The material was presented at webinars in six UN languages during Minamata Online 4. Recordings and presentations from this webinar series are now available. Click to navigate and explore!
